Inspired by Dick Lee’s alter ego The Mad Chinaman, MAD is a wickedly fresh and fun dining concept! MAD brings together 5 unique elements; delectable Tapas and authentic Dim Sum, freshly baked artisan breads and pastries, whacky cocktails crafted to your heart’s desire from Bar Stories, a selection of 150 labels from Top Wines, funky music and merchandises specially curated by Dick Lee. I was suppose to visit MAD’s opening with a friend, Rayson, whose label L’ile aux Ashby is among the merchandises selling there. I was excited for I might get to see Dick Lee, the Godfather of local music!! For a music lover who grew up listening to his songs, I am sure I would be starstruck! Had to deal with disappointments due to unforeseen circumstances but I was happy for I am finally visiting this place with Merli.
I would definitely visit MAD again to try their MAD Cocktails! Simply let their Mixiologists know your cravings and they would whip up a drink crafted to your taste buds, moods and likings! I only knew about this after I left MAD. All the more reason to head back for another good meal!
2 girls, 1 weekend, tons of food = mad happy.
It is so convenient to place an order at MAD. Take your time browsing through the ipad into the different food categories. You can even see the receipt and check if you have everything before finalising and confirming your orders.
Clams (Regular) S$33.00 – comes with freshly toasted bread, dip them into the yummy salty sauce… woo-la-lahhh. Cooked together with barley brings some sweetness to the salty clams.
Steamed Scallop Rice Roll S$6.50 – Steamed rice rolls are usually eaten with ‘char siew’ or prawns but scallops? This is my 1st! Filled with huge scallops, yums!
Yong Tau Foo – Merli’s sharp eyes caught the waiters serving this around the diner and ordered us one. According to the waiter, this isn’t in the menu and is served when the chef feels like cooking it. Kinda like “soup of the day”.
Crispy Bun with Salted Egg Yolk Filing S$4.50 – Equally awesome eaten hot or cold. Yes, it is that delicious.
Steamed Black Angus Beef Siew Mai S$6.20 – Very interesting and I love these fusion mix of dim sum. Delicious and makes eating so fun.
Deep fried Prawn Roll with cheese S$4.50 – can’t really taste the cheese after all the frying but its still delicious and very crispy.
Crispy beancurd roll with shrimps S$4.50 – another yummy kinda must have for dim sum.
Tri-coloured Crystal balls with Black sesame and banana pancake S$5.00 – I can easily eat another 5 of this! The black sesame and banana pancake is SOOOO VERY YUMMY! The crystal balls; yellow – mango, black – black sesame, grey – yam.
After a good meal, you can even shop at MAD! Or head down and buy some breads and pastries home for afternoon tea.
The bread looks soooo good I had to buy some home for tea!
The gorgeous box for your bread and pastries. A little suggestion? Maybe you would like to put the bread or pastries in a plastic before placing them inside the box so that we can recycle and use it for storing stuffs? Its a pretty keepsake box and I find it a little sad to have to throw mine away for its stained.
Peach Danish S$1.78 – looks as good as it taste!
Focaccia Sesame S$5.50 – my favorite bread with my all time favorite black sesame, how can I not try? Focaccia smells really good and the sesame makes the bread extra crunchy!
Ham n Cheese S$1.77 – I’ve always love ham + cheese but on a stick somehow makes it even yummier. Presentation is really important and this is rather creative don’t you agree?
