Last year has been such a fruitful traveling year with me traveling to 5 countries and 7 cities. Can you believe it’s been 4 months since I last travelled? I love Taiwan though I have only been there 4 or was it 5 times? If there is a chance, I would really hope to work there and introduce all the amazing food.
If you are taking a short trip to Taipei, here are some of the food you should most definitely try! After all, it has been tried and tested by yours truly… so here goes:
Good Day Good Time Tea -良辰吉時
No. 21-6, Lane 51, Section 1, Da’an Road
大安路一段51巷21號之6
Da’an District, 台北市 106
Taiwan
Train: Zhong Xiao Dun Hua – Blue Line
I was there an hour-ish after they are open and out of their top 5 best sellers, first 3 already sold out! Among the sold-out-best-seller is this DIE DIE MUST TRY strawberry yogurt drink which my Taiwanese friend highly strongly recommended! She said she can drink 10 cups straight! I had the number 4th or 5th best seller which is dragonfruit with kiwi and some sort yogurt and it was tasty!!! I also ordered wintermelon which I also love! It is no wonder the queue never stops at @gooddaygoodtimetea plus their packaging damn gorgeous can.
Ningxia Night Market 寧夏夜市
How to get there: The market is located on Ningxia Road between Nanjing West Road and Mingshen West Road. I took a cab here but I read that you can walk if you know which one to head to from Zhong Shan and Shuang Lian MRT stop.
Besides Raohe Night Market, Ningxia is my other favourite for the food is cooked differently than the ones found in Raohe and Shilin. 300-meter-long night market offering traditional Taiwanese delicacies and featuring local/traditional food. There are 2 stalls selling this peanut and black sesame mochi with ice, I’ve tried both stalls and they are equally nice. Mochi very shiok that I ordered another 2 big ones separately!! MUST have!
Comida 可蜜達炭烤吐司
中山區林森北路310巷24號, Taipei, Taiwan
No. 24, Lane 310, Linsen North Road, Zhongshan District, Taipei City, Taiwan
Train: ShuangLian – Red Line
Legit overflowing cheese toast in 3 different cheese and egg choices, IT IS AS DELICIOUS AS IT LOOKS! I had this 起司四重奏 (Quadruple Cheese, Pork and Egg Toast) NT85 (S$4) and you SHOULD really try it too; generous cheese filling and sweet pork patty is LOVE! They open as early as 7am and I heard they are usually sold out by 11am. Lady at the counter is really friendly and helpful too.
Huang Ji Braised Pork Rice 黃記滷肉飯
台北市中山區中山北路二段183巷28號
No. 28號, Lane 183, Section 2, Zhongshan North Road, Zhongshan District, Taipei City, Taiwan
Train: CKS Memorial Hall – Green/Red line
I was recommended by Taiwanese cabbies that they prefer Huang Ji Braised Pork Rice 黃記魯肉飯 rather than the touristy ones. MUST ORDER Braised Pork Belly Rice NT50 (S$2.35) cos it is so juicy and tender and my mum is all thumbs up for the Braised Pork Rice NT30 (S$1.41) and regretted not ordering the large bowl. I am salivating as I’m typing.
金鶏母 Jingimoo 甜品
No. 36, Lane 143, Section 1, Hangzhou South Road, Zhongzheng District, Taipei City, Taiwan 100
Train: Dongmen – Red/Yellow Line
A quaint cafe located at the road junction with an open bar table by the side, perfect for shooting the desserts with natural lighting. This is the Rose Shaved Ice NT$90 (S$4.23) which is really refreshing! Love the Tie GuanYin tea jelly, mochi, yuzu and dig deeper and you’ll find red beans as well. Tempted to try their Lime Shaved Ice but my sore throat was begging me to stop. Lol
365台湾小吃
No. 34, Hanzhong St, Wanhua District Taipei City, Taiwan 108
Train: Ximen – Green/Blue Line
My favourite place to go for local comfort food and its located conveniently near Rainbow hotel. I will always order my all-time favourite ORH AH JIAN (oyster omelette) radish cake, 蛋炒饭 (fried rice) and oyster mee sua! Really very shiok and affordable.
If you are looking to head to Yilan, you can refer to my blogpost here and I strongly recommend Uncle Lin. He is very honest and I have a lot of readers telling me they really loves his service. Some even booked his cab from Taipei all the way to Yilan!
