The mister is the happiest when I was approached to do a review for the rugged Volvo V40 Cross Country D2. He has always been interested in cars and was so enthusiastic about helping me with this blog post. I googled and found out about the rugged design and was attracted by the outlook. We have a thing for hatch back cars and I thought this would be a good time to try to blog something new, since I have never written a car review, and have the enthusiastic mister help. So in my layman terms, here goes…
The New Volvo V40 Cross Country D2 brings a unique blend of capable ruggedness and expressive elegance up to a new altitude. The New Volvo V40 Cross Country is now available in a full range of colours, specifications, and options including the most advanced safety features and technology upgrades, while keeping low carbon emissions caring for the environment.
New Volvo V40 Cross Country D2 sporty stance is enhanced with a higher suspension different body kit with “bash” plates and rims, including contrasting front and rear bumpers, honeycomb mesh grille and vertical LED Daytime running lights and an integrated rear skid plates. With a curvy unique rear end and off road looks, Volvo V40 Cross Country D2 still stands out from the rest of the hatch back.
While many has the misconception that diesel powered cars tend to lack in performance compared to a petrol powered vehicle, this does not apply on the New Volvo V40 Cross Country D2 as the max torque output of 270Nm at 1750 – 2500rpm. As a matter of fact, this car is very responsive and punchy while picking up from stop or even to overtake. Because it’s diesel powered, thus the frugality.
With a 52 litre tank, you can easily cover over a distance of 800 – 900km without needing to top up frequently. The annual road tax for diesel powered vehicle may be higher at S$1322 compared to a petrol powered vehicle at S$722, eventually after driving for a period of time, you will still be able to save in the long run.
The interior of Cross Country is designed around people with strong emphasis on ergonomics, comfort and an engaging driving experience. The mister is 1.84m tall and even after adjusting the driver seat to fit his frame, the rear passengers still find enough leg room to be comfortable. The seat is of genuine leather and fits the contour of the body perfectly making it really comfortable and cozy.
All the essential control buttons can be found on the steering wheel all within your fingertips! Answering of calls, switching of radio stations, volume control, cruise control while going on long distance rides…
The infotainment sound system is really good! I would know since I’ve been a music audio producer for the last 7 years, job hazard as I call it. With the most advanced audio unit, a class D digital 5x130W amplifer, Dolby Digital in combination with Dolby Pro Logic II Surround, the latest MultEQ from Audyssey Laboratories (eliminating distortion) along with 10 loud speakers, resulting in crisper and clearer sound for everyone in the car to enjoy and sing along!
The Cross Country has a fully graphic 8” Adaptive Digital Display that expresses emotional functionality displaying important information and allows the driver to choose between 3 graphic themes! I only heard about handphone and computer themes, but car? Really?
With Performance theme, a red background illumination, the theme exudes a sporty atmosphere. The Elegance theme has amber illumination thus creating a calm aura. The Eco theme features green background illumination, designed to create an environmentally inspired look. It is not hard to guess which is the favourite theme for the sports-car-loving mister.
The interior lighting is designed to give a “theatre lighting” feel because the LED lamps are used to light up strategic areas. The driver can enjoy a red to blue setting or choose between another 7 mood themes! This is one awesome customisation car! Even the front and rear reading lights can be dimmed according to individual preferences.
Initially we were concern that if we were to open the panoramic roof, the hot sun will cooked us alive. But then again, how often does one get to enjoy the view above while the driver is driving? The tinted roof reduces infrared radiation ensuring the interior maintains a comfortable temperature even on the sunniest days. This I can vouch! No complains even as it starts pouring in the evening because the view gets even more romantic as we ate ice-cream while listening to the pitter-patter rain drops.
The car boot is relatively spacious for a hatch back. No worries if you require more space as the two-piece, 40/60 rear seat backrest can be easily folded!
Gone are the days where people think that only the older folks drive the Volvo. Look at how young, hip and versatile the New Volvo V40 Cross Country D2 is! Blending into the graffiti backdrop and still looking all chic.
We had a super good time driving this beauty around town with our besties. The smooth ride with the gorgeous panoramic roof is perfect for date nights! With the awesome sound system, we were like ktv-ing on the go all the way to Sentosa and even as the rain comes, it didn’t dampen our moods! Instead, we drove thru Mac’s and bought sundaes and continue singing.
