Truly Test Kitchen @ Jun Jie Industrial Building

February 22, 2016

I was a little sceptical about the location and was wondering if I have gotten the right location and if the food will be as good as what I’ve seen. I was attracted to the yummy pictures on Instagram with the generous portions and low prices with most dishes starting at an average of S$3.50 so I decided to join my friend for the tasting.

The two young hawkerpreneurs, Joel and Deniece, started Truly Curry Rice at Telok Blangah Drive Food Centre but has since closed their stall making a brave move to expand their business taking over an entire coffee shop at Jun Jie Industrial Building with a new name Truly Test Kitchen. Truly Test Kitchen is a clever concept consisting of Truly Curry Rice, Truly Western, Mian and Handmade Meatball Porridge.

  1. Curry Chicken Noodle S$3.50 is huge in portion, curry is delicious and shiok!
  2. Chicken N Waffles S$4.50 where to find this kind of price for savoury waffles of such generous portion. Drizzle that maple syrup onto the chicken and eat it with the waffles, me like!
  3. Curry Kimchi-Like Noodle which has a queer strong maggi-mee taste that we didn’t quite fancy.
  4. Seafood Aglio Olio S$3.50 with portion as high as a mountain and looks like it can feed 2 person! Hahaaa

We are enjoying the generous portion and the fact that the food is also delicious makes it even better!

We were all excited the moment we were presented with the plate of white rice covered generously with curry gravy and accompanied by a few vegetable dishes like Chap Chye and deep fried pork cutlet. The legendary ‘curry ben’ (hokkien for curry rice) has arrived.

Everything is homemade from scratch from the delicious yam cakes, pumpkin cake and carrot cakes (S$2.00 each) to the sambal chili! Crispy on the outside and stuffed with generous fillings on the inside! This dish made it to one of our favourites.

Joel was telling us that this Pork Ball Porridge S$3.00 is what his ah-ma would cook for him when he is sick. Very nostalgic homemade Cantonese style congee and this is so delicious we wanted more.

You can customise with The Homely Noodles S$3.50 and choose from your favourite type of noodle; yellow noodle, bee hoon, Maggie mee, kway teow to soup base of curry or ikan-bilis to chicken, pork or beef and topped it with egg or vegetable. Joel made us one of his favourite and this big bowl of awesome-ness at only S$3.50! Where to find???
