Modgam goes International… while almost. Haha does Taiwan count? This is the biggest award Modgam has ever received. #thankful Ok, as you can probably tell… I’m typing whatever that is going through my mind right now. I guess this feeling is still surreal to me even though it’s been months. Imagine my excitement when I received the email… “Hi Mag, Good news! You’ve been selected as the winner of the Singapore SnapAsia Contest, and will be representing Singapore for the catwalk and ceremony in Taiwan from 21 – 23 August! Congratulations!”
I contemplated a lot before replying the email agreeing to attend the event. Everything sounds intimidating though I was jumping in joy; the catwalk, all the skinny fashion people, interviews, going on stage in public interacting with passerby… the flight phobia etc… I knew I had to grab this once in a lifetime opportunity. With all the support, encouragements and well wishes from everyone, I went ahead and took the flight on my own for the first time!
Fashion Guide (FG) flew me on China Airlines and I’m impressed. The food is good and the service even better. I was nervous but my beef stew was so good I finish everything!
FG booked us all, 8 SnapAsia winners, at the gorgeous Me2Villa. Our schedule is pretty packed for we are only there for 3 days with rehearsal and events. We were all looking forward to some awesome massage at the villa.
I froze upon seeing the stage! It may look small in the picture but it wasn’t anywhere small. We get only 2 rehearsals and its SHOW TIME! The only thing on my mind was “Mag, DO NOT FALL, DO NOT FALL! WHATEVER U DO, CANNOT FALL!” I was chanting so much I forgot to smile and look all nervous! The stage director screamed at me but she wasn’t scolding me and said this: “Don’t forget to smile. Your smile is your trademark! You smile and win already.” Along with the lovely FG editors and staff all screaming and cheering for me off stage, I begin to loosen up and smile brightly as I strut down the runway.
At the outdoor activity with one of Lady’s First aka 女人我最大 (Nu Ren Wo Zui Da) teacher, 李佑群, who is very stylish and friendly.
Newfound friends from Hong Kong, Malaysia, Taiwan, Singapore!
8 SnapAsia winners; Malaysia, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Korea, Japan, Singapore, Shanghai, missing Bangkok winner who will be joining us later evening for the catwalk.
Despite being a Mass Comms graduate, I have very bad stage fright! If I can shun all the stage presentation, I would! Imagine I have to introduce myself on stage and my fashion style! My only consolation? It’s Taiwan and it’s not like they will see me again. Haha #soproudofmyself
You cannot imagine how nervous I was feeling and I was religiously chanting the routine “Walk to the middle of the stage and count to 4, Mag. Smile… be careful of the steep stairs and keep your head up and smile… walk to the end of the long runway. Pose pose pose, 3 times. Turn and walk back halfway before turning back to smile and pose again.”
INTENSELY TERRIFYING!
When people tell you not be scare on the runway cos you cannot see anyone sitting there when you are up there. THEY ARE LYING! I can see everyone so clearly I almost pee in my pants! But hey, one incredible achievement off the bucket list?!
VERY thankful for so many opportunities, the new friendships made and for everything that got me through this. I am no small size lady and who can imagine someone so meaty like me (uk12-14) can catwalk in Taiwan and got featured in one of the most popular Taiwan magazine? I would never dream possible but thank you for the recognition… thank you for the chance to share my quirky fashion style… thank you FG team for taking such good care of me, thank you to the amazing SnapAsia winners who shared tips with me, thank you to the very kind makeup artist and hairstylist for making me so beautiful…thanks to Singapore designer Gilda of Revasseur for dressing me up, thanks to this once in a lifetime opportunity, I conquered so many fears and insecurities. Now I can tell everyone this 35yr old auntie walked the international runway before, don’t play play ok?
