Located along the streets of Jalan Besar is the third outlet of Ponggol Nasi Lemak. Designed with a new concept in mind, customers can enjoy their Nasi Lemak in an air-conditioned environment and order their food as they do for fast food.
What’s new about this outlet? Diners can browse through menus in the shop and choose the ingredients for their nasi lemak, to come up with their very own customized nasi lemak. Several processes are now automated to speed up the efficiency of the food being prepared but not to worry, the quality of the food still remains one of their highest priorities. Several menu items are still prepared by hand such as the vegetable dishes and premium condiments are still used.
Among the eateries, this outlet is the only one with four set menu offerings and there are seven new premium house specialties, namely Crispy Chicken Skin with Curry Leaves, Grilled Japanese Squid with Special Sauce, Premium Baby Shrimp Cracker, Crispy Battered Whole Prawn and Fish Fillet, Signature Ngoh Hiang, Signature Seafood Dumping.
In addition there is also homemade Hibiscus Ice Tea ($1.90) and Homemade Ice Cream and Sorbet ($2.50).
It is a healthy drink if anything and it tastes good. A little like Ribena but less sweet.
Sorbet selections include Raspberry Mango, Lemongrass Lime, Pink Guava, Kyoho Grape, Passion Fruit and Blood Orange. Ice creams include Milo, Peanut Butter Milk and Green Tea. If I were to recommend you which flavors to try, it would be Kyoho Grape and Pink Guava for the sorbet and for the ice cream, go for the Milo or Peanut Butter Milk.
Which of the house specialties should you order? If you like crispy food and perhaps want an appetizer or a dish to share, the crispy chicken skin will be a good choice.
What if you are a seafood person? Then go for the grilled Japanese squid. Nice and chewy and served in thin slices for easy bites.
The thing about these dishes is that they are easy to share with friends or family and they complement the rice and sambal. In fact, all their specialties and the different ingredients available are all carefully chosen with these two things in mind.
Here’s my nasi lemak, no prizes for guessing the ingredient correctly.
So that said, head down to this outlet during lunch hours and grab your nasi lemak now!
