I’ve always loved photo-styling but I can tell you it isn’t easy fitting everything together into that one square frame! All the creativity, pairing items together, the angle and what not. Thanks to TPASG, I get to go on a 1-on-1 Coaching for Photography Composition with Photography Coach Irene at the professional Reddot Photo Studio.
I packed items I would like to use for this shoot. I’ve always wanted to lay my huge bag collection on the floor and swim among them! Since I couldn’t bring so many bags with me, I’ve decided to pack my Issey Miyake Bilbao bags and some other products to let Irene teach and share her photography composition skills with me.
Before we get down to practical training, we had to learn the theories and I certainly didn’t expect this. I wasn’t trained in photography and it has always been just a casual hobby so I was pretty lost and clueless when Irene was sharing slides and asking questions. But then again, I think it’s good to learn the theories so that we know the different perceptions and angles and why certain pictures turn out this way. #noeasywayoutifyouwanttosucceed
Did you know most Digital Camera are 5-20 mega pixels? Human eyes are equivalent to 52 mega pixels camera! That’s why theories are good for that extra knowledge.
I like that TPASG train Freelance/Professional Photographers too, that also means people can let them know if they need Photographers and they can refer their students over. Most of their activities/events held are to keep Photography community as one in Singapore and also to help and encourage Photography Enthusiast to dream big while building their portfolios and skillset together.
Here comes the fun when we get our hands-on and get to style all my props and get down to photography. I was a little disappointed as I stated I would love to learn how to use my Olympus epl-5 and get rid of the overly-orangey pictures but Irene said I will have to play with it and kept setting it or so. Anyhow, I used my iphone 6 and got down to business.
Irene was sharing with me that it would be nice to stack my bags in different heights. I was thinking where to get those transparent product stands so that in future I can use them for other product shoots and she pointed to a wooden stair at Reddot studio. She said we can use that and I was like “eh, I have that at home!” So with something so basic, she created another feel where I can gather all my Issey Miyake bags collection together.
We took the products I brought and started styling and I enjoyed this the most. To see, learn and share ideas. I realised photography is really quite individual just like how some people like certain food and not all reviews are the same for the same dish. What angle you like might not be the angle I like and how you position your photography may not exactly be to my liking. Most importantly I feel is to unleash that creativity and express your thoughts through the picture and like that picture do all the talking.
Lighting is an important factor too and I am so glad Shafiq from Reddot Studio introduced me to the portable lighting that is sold in their studio. I have been searching for it for the longest time! The only thing I don’t quite fancy is the heavy usage of 6 x AA batteries BUT the lighting features it does is quite impressive. You can adjust the brightness of the lighting and choose from cool to white to super orange light! ME LOVE! The stand holding the lighting can even be used on most camera! #soveryawesome #2forthepriceof1
You can call them to check about the different portable lighting they have at +65833 23324 or email them at firstname.lastname@example.org The Reddot studio is also a professional studio where you can rent for personal photoshoots.
