When I first heard Legoland Malaysia is coming to town, I was screaming in joy, like literally. My friends know how much I adore Lego, so much so that even my fashion accessories are made of LEGO! I have been talking about visiting this amazing theme park in Denmark but now I don’t have to wait that long or travel that far for they are coming to ASIA! Thank you so much for the media invite and I look forward to my trip to Legoland! *MAD HAPPY*
About LEGOLAND Malaysia
LEGOLAND Malaysia is the sixth LEGOLAND to be built in the world and the very first in Asia. Targeted at families with children between the ages of two to twelve years, LEGOLAND Parks are based on the universally popular LEGO construction toy range. They offer families the opportunity to bond, learn and push the boundaries of their imaginations through LEGO experiences. At LEGOLAND, families can practice their imagination and creativity, have fun while learning, and understand the importance of caring and quality. Families will be immersed in a unique mix of kid-powered rides, building challenges, spectacular LEGO models, interactive attractions, family-friendly coasters and shows that pull the audience into the action. LEGOLAND Malaysia will feature more than 40 interactive rides, shows and attractions when it opens.
Other LEGOLAND theme parks across the world are situated in Denmark, United Kingdom, Germany and the USA with Florida and California. There are LEGOLAND Hotels in the Parks in Denmark and the UK; with a hotel scheduled to open in California in 2013.
LEGOLAND Malaysia will be located in Iskandar Malaysia and is made possible through IDR Resorts and Merlin Entertainments Groups, the world’s second largest visitor attraction operator.

JOHOR, 26th July 2012 – Asia’s first LEGOLAND® revealed today in an exclusive preview, a soon to be completed MINILAND. Touted as the heart of all LEGOLAND’s around the world, the showcase area famously recreates cities made entirely from LEGO® bricks.
The models are built on a scale of 1:20 and as a special tribute to being the first LEGOLAND in Asia, it will feature 17 countries and cities from around the region including Laos, Cambodia, Vietnam, Brunei, Myanmar, Philippines, Indonesia, China, India, Singapore, Johor Bahru and Kuala Lumpur. This is the largest MINILAND ever built for a new park and the project has taken more than three years to complete.
Concept stages kicked off in 2009 and information about the region was compiled from online sources, guide books and by talking to locals. This was followed by on-site research, whereby LEGOLAND dispatched a team of designers to photograph buildings, roads, and streets across Asia and get a feel for the cities. The 3D design and production stage took over two years to complete and the primary objective was to mimic the actual city/area as closely as possible. Actual models were then built in various parts of the world including Malaysia where a training studio was also established. Models built overseas were transported by air and sea for installation at LEGOLAND Malaysia, this process started six months ago and is expected to complete by the middle of August.
Among the best attractions in MINILAND is the Singapore cluster and it’s inspired by some of Singapore’s most treasured landmarks, namely Singapore’s Merlion, the Fullerton Hotel and One Fullerton Pier, Singapore Flyer, Maybank Building, Bank of China Building, 6 Battery Road, Riverside Point. The most unique structure in this area is a recreation of Singapore’s famous DUCK Tours. A LEGO replica of the renowned DUCK Tours vehicle will travel around the city following an inductive loop that is embedded into the concrete. Once the vehicle comes into contact with water it will travel in a clear acrylic channel that has been mounted into the water body.
Patrick De Maria, MINILAND Project lead at LEGOLAND, said that this is the first time that an animated amphibious car will be featured in MINILAND and it is controlled wirelessly.
“Apart from the DUCK Tours, the Singapore Flyer was another great challenge and a must-see; imagine building something perfectly round out of rectangular bricks and if that sounds easy, try building it to scale and then wiring it to make it move like the real thing,” he added on the attractions.
When fully completed, every cluster will also tell a unique story given the extent of detailing incorporated into each. When visitors take a closer look, they will be amazed by LEGO figures depicted to be working, strolling through the streets, driving and undertaking other day to day activities. True to the LEGO spirit of fun and entertainment, those with a sense of humour will also discover funny stories dotted all over the cities. Furthermore, the whole of MINILAND is also animated, and guests can bring the models to life with a simple press of buttons.
MINILAND is just one of the seven themed areas at LEGOLAND that has been developed with education in mind. Nearly all the attractions are also interactive so guests are can look forward to endless adventure and fun.
During the preview, journalists were also invited to try some of LEGOLAND’s most famous rides. The Aquazone Wave Racers is located at LEGO TECHNIC and here visitors can power-ski across the water, surfing the waves and dodging jets of water.
Everything in the LEGO TECHNIC is big, fast and action packed. Other rides in this zone include Project X, the high-speed coaster that is eighteen meters high and leads guests along a steep switchback track with lots of sharp bends. On the Technic Twister, one can whirl around in colourful LEGO pods using a hand-wheel to control how fast they spin.
The Park prepares to open its doors officially on 15th September 2012. Once fully operational the Park will also feature a wide variety of food and beverage outlets to cater to every taste. Three restaurants, three food-stands, and up to 10 food-carts serving freshly prepared food will be made available.
And for those who don’t want the fun to stop at the end of the day, the specialty shops ensure guests can take home a piece of the magic. Highlights include the highly coveted Pick-a-Brick store where LEGO elements of all colours, shapes and sizes are on sale in a pick-n-mix sweetshop style, whilst the Big Shop, has the largest selection of LEGO toy sets under one roof in Asia. It also sells exclusives and hard to find items, as well as a variety of LEGOLAND souvenirs including hats, t-shirts and mugs.
To date, over 45,000 annual passes have been pre-sold, with over 65% sold in Malaysia and the rest regionally throughout Asia. These exciting early figures help towards LEGOLAND’s goal of attracting over 1.2 million park guests in the first year of operation. Annual passes are available to buy on the LEGOLAND website. Annual passes will also be available to buy at pre-opening promotional prices at the upcoming NATAS Fair taking place at the Singapore Expo from 24th to 26th August 2012. Day tickets will also be available at the travel fair, the biggest in Singapore.
