You HAVE TO buy tickets to My Fair Lady for I enjoyed myself so much I am tempted to purchase tickets just so I can watch it again! Infact, it is so good I went home and watched the 1964 movie except that this time I can sing along loudly and sway my body for I was erm…at home?! The dry humour of the musical is hilarious and I wonder how they keep a straight face for I had a hard time controlling those laughter of mine! I am also very impressed by the sense of humour the English has, imagine lyrics and lines from as early as 1956 is still as amazingly awesome and the laughter continues till today!!! Loving the costumes and backdrops for every little detail blows me away.
Thank you BASE Entertainment for inviting me (keep the invites coming please!!! LOL) and I brought my best friend along for she has been bugging me a month ago to buy tickets to My Fair Lady as part of her birthday present! Bud and I have this tradition of snapping pictures of each musical’s backdrop but this time we totally forgotten to snap pictures! We were both humming away and going aowww, wouldn’t it be loverrrly… all the way to the taxi stand. Like seriously can!
Eliza sings:
All I want is a room somewhere,
Far away from the cold night air.
With one enormous chair,
Aow, wouldn’t it be loverly?
Lots of choc’lates for me to eat,
Lots of coal makin’ lots of ‘eat.
Warm face, warm ‘ands, warm feet,
Aow, wouldn’t it be loverly?
Synopsis: Based on George Bernard Shaw’s 1912 play Pygmalion, MY FAIR LADY will transport audiences to Edwardian London and one of the most beautiful stories ever told about language and clash of cultures. It follows the relationship between Eliza Doolittle, a Cockney flower girl, and the snobbish and misogynistic Professor Henry Higgins, a phoneticist, who wagers that he can turn Eliza into a “proper lady” in three months’ time. Those who experience MY FAIR LADY will be enchanted by this tale of triumph of the human spirit, as well as the love story that emerges between two unlikely heroes, ultimately joined together by their fascination with the English language.
When the show first opened on Broadway in 1956, starring Rex Harrison and Julie Andrews, critics described it as “legendary” and “one of the greatest musicals of the century.” MY FAIR LADY went on to win six TONY Awards, and, in 1961, became the longest-running production in Broadway history at that time.
