If you had asked me 3 years ago if I would one day consider or share my experience about nose fillers and threadlift, it would have been a firm NO! I would never imagine trying either since I am not knowledgeable on both, and neither did I think that I will be brave enough to give it a try! ~ inserts silly laughter ~
3 years ago, I had my very first Nose Fillers experience and today I’m proud to share with you my first experience with Nose Threadlift and all you need to know about the procedure.
Which doctor to look for? How was the whole experience? Was it very painful? Are you able to squeeze your blackhead or rub and blow your nose? What are the side effects? Any regrets? What is the difference between nose fillers and threadlift? I will cover everything you need to know based on my personal experience. Tried and tested!
How do you like your new look?
Allow me to be vain and show you my new look first before all other questions? I am loving the elegant look thanks to my new defined nose! It is so natural looking and it made my features stand out a lot more. I have friends commenting that my eyes look even bigger, brighter and that I became prettier.
With my “new” nose and higher bridge, my glasses can now rest nicely on my nose bridge without slipping down all the time. I love it! I could never do a front shot of my face but now, I’m trying to take photos from my side profiles too and I feel so much more confident.
I want to thank Dr Rachel Ho from La Clinic for being so awesome and making me feel so comfortable. Without her assurance and professionalism, I am very sure I wouldn’t be able to go through this. It is really important to communicate with your doctor and I’m so glad I found her.
Who is Dr Rachel Ho?
Dr Rachel Ho is an aesthetic doctor specialising in good skin and minimally invasive aesthetic treatments for beauty and aging. She graduated from the National University of Singapore with multiple awards.
After graduation, she also pursued her specialist training in ear, nose and throat surgery where she found her special interest in facial aesthetics.
Why you should choose Dr Rachel Ho?
If I need to get an aesthetic treatment done in the future, I would choose Dr Rachel Ho again because she is very passionate in what she is doing. She wants to help her patients look and feel more confident about themselves. I like how she takes time to understand what I want and makes me feel really comfortable talking to her. She analysed my facial and nose structure and explained how Hiko nose threadlift will benefit me.
HIKO nose threadlifts are tailored to each individual depending on nose structure and what the patient is looking to achieve. Therefore, it is very important to talk to your doctor throughly before the treatment.
I appreciate Dr Rachel in patiently clearing my doubts and fears with her honest reply and extensive knowledge. This is why after the consultation, I decided to go ahead with my virgin Hiko Nose Threadlift.
What is Hiko Nose Threadlift and how long can it last?
The treatment originated in Korea, and the word “HIKO” means high nose. Nose threads are made of PDO (polydioxanone) material which is safe and have been used for medical surgical procedures such as sutures and will fully dissolve over time. The special HIKO nose threads have cogs, unlike the usual smooth PDO threads, can provide better scaffolding strength thus longer lasting results.
When HIKO nose threads are placed under the skin during the procedure, they act like a scaffolding structure to lift the nose bridge and nose tip, hence improving the appearance of the nose.
The results of the HIKO nose threadlifts are immediate and the nose threads will typically dissolve after 6 – 9 months. However, collagen fibres formed during the process prolongs the results up to 1 – 1.5 years.
Why nose threadlift and not nose fillers? Aren’t they the same?
Just like nose fillers, Hiko nose threadlift has similar side effects such as swelling, bruising, pain and infection. The risk of the Hiko nose threadlift having thread extrusion is very low. Did you know that the risk of blindness and skin necrosis associated with nose fillers are almost non-existent for the Hiko nose threadlift and there is no chance of spreading, unlike nose fillers?
Was I nervous? How did I calm down?
I was so nervous when Angie, Dr Rachel Ho’s assistant, was washing my face and prepping me for the procedure. I was wondering how painful it will be along with a million other fears and Dr Rachel seems to have “heard” it. She started talking to me asking what kind of music I like before switching the radio on. I ended singing to the music and started to calm down. Dr Rachel continued talking to me about my blog and it really diverted my attention.
You will see in all the pictures such as the above with my mouth open cos we were chatting throughout the entire procedure! hahaha I kid you not! Dr Rachel Ho assured me she is comfortable chatting with me even as she completes the nose threadlift procedure and I was so thankful.
I love how Dr Rachel Ho explained what she was doing and assuring me along the way. Before the actual procedure, Dr Rachel Ho did some markings on the areas where the threads will be placed and where local anesthesia was needed.
Was it painful when you had the anesthesia jab?
Just like any other jabs that we get in a clinic, it is really a once-off ouch, like 1 second and that was it. I wouldn’t even consider it painful cos its really just a teeny weeny poke and after that you won’t feel a thing. The slightly more painful area is the one on the tip of your nose with like a louder OUCH and that was it. Dr Rachel Ho is really professional and gentle so it really helps.
I love that Dr Rachel Ho was checking if I can feel any pain as she goes along and praising me for doing so well.
How long does the procedure take? Any discomfort?
After a small puncture at the nose tip with a fine needle, the threads for the Hiko nose threadlift were inserted via a blunt cannula. The entire procedure took approximately 30 minutes.
There wasn’t any pain nor discomfort, just some pushing movements when Dr Rachel Ho inserted the threadlift into your nose.
Are you happy with the result?
A picture speaks a thousand words! I was so happy with the results and I didn’t expect my “new” nose to look so natural. I actually have a high nose bridge now!
The Before and After Pictures?
I had to give myself a crown because I did so well! Dr Rachel Ho was praising me the entire time and I felt so proud for trying this. Honestly the fear factor was so much more than the actual pain. Fear factor 10/10 vs Actual Pain 1.5/10!
I always believe in trying everything once and if I don’t like it, at least I’ve tried it before I said no. I wouldn’t dare go for nose implant cos it is such a huge deal going under the knife. I’ve seen failed cases with serious infection thus I feel this is perfect for me and anyone who wants to start small.
Dr Rachel Ho told me she wouldn’t make the tip of my nose any smaller cos of my huge jaw bone. She did such a good job proportioning my nose matching my facial features.
The swelling went down after 5 days and I cannot believe how a higher nose bridge can make such a great difference with the illusion of a slimmer and more defined face! Friends I met kept telling me I’ve lost weight but its really just my “new” nose! It was an instant boost of confidence and I cannot stop smiling.
Any downtime?
You can return to work and resume your daily activities after the threadlift as there is no downtime. However, it really depends on individual. There was no pain except a feeling of tightness, some swelling, and some needle marks which was really normal. I had a slight headache though, but that didn’t bother me very much. I even went right to my hair salon for my nail appointment and to show off my “new” nose.
Day 2: The tightness and headache was gone and it felt more like a blue-black kind of ache. It was a little more sensitive when I touch the cheek areas that are closer to my nose. Other than that, it was ok and I was able to wash and clean my nose.
Day 3-4: My nose was still swelling with an obvious bruise mark.
Day 5 onwards:There was no more swelling but the bruise mark was still there. The mark took about 2 weeks to fade off.
Any other things to take note?
Proper aftercare is important and Dr Rachel Ho gave me medicine to prevent infection.
After the Hiko nose threadlift, I was prescribed a topical antibiotic and another oral antibiotic for one week to prevent an infection. I was also prescribed an anti-bruising supplement to speed up the recovery of my bruising.
I was advised to stay away from makeup for the first 5 days over the nose tip where the entry of the threads was and regular skincare regime is fine. The foodie-me is happy to know there wasn’t any food restrictions either.
I have been taking a lot more selfies than I ever had before and my “new” nose is motivating me to lose weight. I have been procrastinating for the longest time and I guess this is a good motivating factor. I want to look good and feel very good.
